How Low Can You Go

Are You Ready?

>> Thursday, September 30, 2010

Tomorrow is weigh in numero uno!  I hope that you are all ready.  We are up to 29 30 participants! Should I close it down and not accept anyone else, now that we are at the first weigh in? Or can anyone join at anytime?  What do you think?

A few things to note:
  • Had to miss running clinic yesterday, BUT did go for a 35 minute run with a girl from work, it was windy, but it was really fun.
  • Won 5/6 volleyball games today!  I am so proud of my team, we have another tournament tomorrow, I hope that we can do it again!
  • I have been eating pretty well, TOM is here, but I feel surprisingly good.
  • Racing on Sat.  I am NOT prepared.
See you tomorrow!

Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy

>> Tuesday, September 28, 2010

Yesterday, I did a little weight workout and watched a few Youtube videos from Trinidad Carnival 2010.  I saw all these sexy bodies without any flab (or stretch marks). I then realized how out of place I am going to look in 5 months among the sea of slim sexy bodies.  I began to panic a little.  I am the biggest of my friends, that doesn't bother me, I want to go to Trinidad, knowing that I gave it my all and that I am in the best shape ever.  I want to present my best game.  I can't show up looking like a Toyota, when I know that I can be a Maserati.  I have 5 months to get my shit together. The first step is to get out of the 21? and into the 20?.  Step 2 will be bye-bye 200's and hello 1??.  The final step is to get to 17?.   So easy when you put it in 3 steps. Maybe 40 pounds is a bit much, but 25 pounds is realistic, that would put me around 190 and I would take that. I get excited thinking about it, but I sometimes wonder if can I do it.  It has been 2 and a half years and I have lost 60 pounds (momentary pat on the back), but it is time that I stop half assing and get my shit together fo real fo real.
I began to read some motivation articles on bodybuilding.com.  Don't let the name fool you, there is ALOT of great info and I began to feel renewed.  I packed my lunch, stayed away from the sweets.  I think that I am the type of person that needs to read motivational material everyday.  For the first time in a long time I ate well today.  I went for a run with the clinic 4.73K.  Like I said I am racing 5K on Sat. and I want to beat my last race time of 32:10.  I haven't been training hard core so I am a bit  doubtful.

25 people have signed up for the challenge!  WHAT! BRING IT ON!  I am really surprised, who would have thought?  At the same time, I know that everyone is excited and eager to get going and lose some of this extra weight.  Remember to post how much weight you have lost this week on Friday (or as soon as you can). LET THE GAAAAAMMMMMMMESSSSS BEGIN!

Have a great night!

15 by 15 Challenge Details

>> Monday, September 27, 2010

I have a had a few questions about the 15 by 15 Challenge.  This is how we will proceed:

  • Each Friday, leave a comment and tell me how much weight you lost (or gained, hopefully this will not be the case) that week example. ex; +1 or -3
  • Each week I will update the side bar with the total for THAT week as well as the running totals.
  • I will be your cheerleader as well as write a post summarizing the week
  • For those that are up for it, I will add a weekly BONUS challenge.  The Bonus will be something that I would like us as participants to try for the next week; ex: work out for an extra hour or try a new veggie. I will ask participants for ideas for Bonus challenges, as well as tips for other participants.  I really want this to be a fun, non stressful experience and I want participants to be part of the whole process.
Have a great day!

Wow....

>> Sunday, September 26, 2010

Can you believe that we are up to 15 participants in the challenge (15 losing 15 in 15, haha I'm a loser). Damn homey, who would have thought! I am really excited and if you are reading this and you want in, leave a comment.  The goal is to loss 15 pounds in 15 weeks, sounds simple enough.  Picture yourself under the mistletoe with that special someone feeling sexier than ever in your little black dress a size smaller than you wear now, because you were in this challenge!

In running news, I ran 8.6 K today in an hour and 3 minutes, it was so cold. But I burned 816 calories, yeah!  That is a new record, I have not run that far yet!  I have ordered a new jacket to wear while running since the weather is getting colder.  It is reflective, so I will be safe in the winter.

Amazing Race starts tonight, woot woot.  My favorite reality show of all time.  I wish i could be on that show.

Have a great Sunday!

Fall Is Here

I really need to shake these 5 pounds and get back under 210, but I will not be able to do that until I stop putting crap in my mouth. I went for a run this morning (15/25) and the leaves are starting to change color so that is really nice, nevertheless it is getting cold, boo.

Tomorrow is our long run, it is supposed to be 8K, but I know that it will turn into 9 our instructor is crazy in that way.  This week's star system was a bust, epic fail.  I will post the details later.  I am committing to eating better today.  We are up to 10 people participating in the 15 in 15 challenge, yeah!
Have a great weekend!

15 in 15 Challenge

>> Friday, September 24, 2010

Hey hey hey!
I have recovered from my exaushtion and I am ready to work!  The 15 pounds in 15 weeks challenge is on!  I have 6 people including myself that are in.  We have 15 weeks until the end of the year (14 weight ins) and the goal is to loss 15 pounds.  In terms of prizes, I don't have much to offer, but I will send a little something to all that make it.  Here are the participants:
  • Vee
  • Solidice242
  • Dee
  • Ro
  • Melissa
Yeah!  I am so excited!  Anyone else reading this and wants to participate drop me a comment, you are all welcome, the more the merrier. Sorry, I wish I was more computer savy and could make a fancy badge, but no can do. I did some googling and this badge is the best I can come up with, sorry it is so small, but feel free to add in to your posts.  I will keep track on the side bar,so please post a comment each Friday (or whenever you can) and I will update the info with how many pounds you have lost.

Imagine how sexy we will look 15 pounds lighter for New Year's Eve!  Woot woot!

I have signed up for two more races.  One of the is another 5K race and it will be next Sat.  I am aiming for 31 minutes.  I have also signed up for my graduation race for my running clinic it will be Nov. 6 and it is 10K.  In this race I am aiming for 1 hr. 15 minutes.

My gym membership has expired and I am goin to try something new, I am signing up for classes at the community center and I am going to see how that works for a while.

Eating is still a fail.  At my school, we have  a large population of Native students. We took them to a Pow Wow today.  like any cathering there was lots of food.  I had an Indian taco it was sooooo good.  Fried bread that had a little cinnamon in it. Topped with shredded lwttuce, homemade salsa and ground beef, oh ya and lots of grated cheese.  Yummy!

A pow-wow (also powwow or pow wow or pau wau) is a gathering of North America's Native people.
A modern pow-wow is a specific type of event where both Native American and non-Native American people meet to dance, sing, socialize, and honor American Indian culture. There is generally a dancing competition, often with significant prize money awarded. Pow-wows vary in length from one day session of 5 to 6 hours to three days.

Have a great weekend!
P.S Weigh in was 214 better but still trying to get back to that 211.

A Quicky

>> Wednesday, September 22, 2010

I'm exhausted, so this will be quick:
  • Ate alot of crap, maybe not crap but cheese and crackers at a reception at school
  • Did the hills, it was actually one hill loop, 3 times, I know that I am going to be in pain tomorrow.  It really wasn't as bad as I thought...Total 6.2K, 623 calories, 51 minutes....14/25
  • Star system is already a fail, more talk of that a bit later
  • Tomorrow is the 5K Girls For The Curre Walk
  • I think I am going to get a massage on Friday, I know that I deserve it.
  • 100 days until the end of the year, 15 weeks I think
  • I want to commit to loss one pound a week, so 15 pounds by Dec. 31. Anyone else want to commit to this? Come on I know you want to......

Next Stop.....1/2 Marathon

>> Tuesday, September 21, 2010

I feel great today! 93.5% better.  Went for a 4K run and it was good.  I was much faster, I am really feeling great

Total: 29:55
Calories: 417
Distance: 4.1 K
Avg Pace: 7:18
Avg Hrt: 160
Max Pace: 5:40
Max Hrt: 172

Yeah 13/25!  Eating clean, that is a whole other story....Vee, I took your advice and got some 100 calorie chocolate covered pretzels, yummy!  I ate two bags, but it would have been WAY worse it I had gone to Bulk Barn and bought them by weight.

Volleyball tournament was postponed due to miscommunication. We got to play 2 teams for fun and we beat both teams, our team looks really good.  I am really proud of my students, I think that we really have potential this season.

Tomorrow night, I am running hills, I am excited and scared at the same time,  I will let you know how that goes.

I think that I am going to try the 1/2 Marathon clinic after this one.  i told this to a guy that works at the Running Room and he said, " Maybe you should try the 10K one more time?"
NO!  I think I can do.  The clinic is 16 weeks instead of 10. I WILL be running in the winter and that doesn't excite me, but hey if I won't do it no one will do it for me.  I really want to prove all the nay sayers wrong and just do it.

Anyone here run a 1/2 marathon?  What did you think?

That will mean that by next March I will be running a 1/2 Marathon, 21K, CRAZY!  I LOVE IT!

Can I Call You Harry Potter?

>> Monday, September 20, 2010

Because you guys must have worked your blog magic, because I feel MUCH better!  I am not 100%, but I am definitely feeling better than yesterday.  Thanks for all your kind words.

Didn't go to the gym, but I did an at home workout that was great.  I really love weights, I cranked up youtube, playing a song I love (today was soca madness) and I would work a body part (let's say biceps) for the extention of that song. 12/25 YEAH! I was a bad girl, I ate some dark chocolate covered almonds, you know what that mean another x on the star board.  I need to be good for the rest of the week.

You know how much I love these "getting to know you" questions.  I stole got this from Moving Mertle, check her out.

  1. If you could magically change one thing about your body, what would it be?
I would erase these damn stretch marks, those of you who have been here awhile know how much I loath them and the sad thing is there is not much that I can do. *insert crying face smiley*
  2. What is your best physical feature?  My smile.  I was blessed with straight teeth and they are nice and white.  The males in the world say that I have nice breasts.
  3. Do you weigh yourself daily? Hourly? Weekly? Bi-weekly? Never?  Most days it is once in the morning.  Some days I also weight in at the gym (I am just curious).
  4. Do you workout regularly? If so, how does if affect you from day to day? Yes, I do.  Even before I lost all the weigh (I was 272 two years ago).  I always loved the gym.  The atmosphere is great and the people watching is fabulous.
  5. What is the healthiest thing you do for yourself on a regular basis? I stopped drinking coffee (but that was more of a milk issue) and I work out regularly.  I try and stay active.
  6. If you could look like a celebrity, who would you choose to look like? I like Kim Kadarshian's shape but she is only 5'2". I love Serena Williams and all those muscles.
  7. What do you do to make yourself feel pretty/handsome? I love when I get my make up done, eyebrows freshly threaded.  Some fake lashes to top of  the look.  A nice outfit.  I would have said get my hair done, but now with my short hair no need for that!
  8. What are you most attracted to in the opposite sex?  Tall, nice smile, soft spoken.
  9. Have you ever avoided situations because you didn't want people to see your body shape? Nope, never.  Even when I was in Japan and went naked to the hot springs, I didn't care.  can you I wish I knoew what those Japanese wpmen were thinking when they saw a 5'9" black lady with DDD breasts and about 250 pounds at the baths?  Thinking about it still makes me chuckle.
  10. How do you feel about your overall appearance? Let's admit it is MUCH better than before. But there is something about going from 272 to 21? that makes you feel good.  I am happy that I have maintained this weight loss, but I am still aiming for 203 (my lowest low) and evertually 175ish.

Have a great night!

Sick

>> Sunday, September 19, 2010

The change in weather has me sick.  I feel stuffy, yet my nose is running. I am trying everything to make it better before it gets worse. Vicks, tea, orange juice, you name it.

Went for a 4K run yesterday and an 8K today both were great and I am definitely a better runner when I go in the morning.  Everyone in my running group is so strong.  I feel sad when I am at the back of the pack, but I have to remind myself that I just started running in May.  That makes 11/25 workouts.  I have 2 weeks to get the other 14 in, yikes.

Today I started the star system, I am aiming to get 18/21 this week and the reward will be a magazine. I am already down one today, because I did not drink enough water because I was chugging orange juice, to help my cold.

I liked aqua fitness so much this summer, I think that I am going to sign up at another community pool.  My pool is under renovations so it will not reopen until Jan. 2011.  I have found another place not too far from where I live that has unfitness twice a week as well as other classes that include yoga.  Registration is 105$ and it is for 12 weeks.  I think that is a good price and I need to have some classes to change things up.

My first volleyball tournament is on Tues!  Wish me luck!

Plans for this week:

M-Gym (if they let me in without a membership)
T-Running 3K
W-Running Hill training (I will let you know how that goes)
T- 5K Breast Cancer Walk with school
F -Rest
S-Running 4K
S-Running 8K

Have a great week.

Weigh In : Time To Bring Back The Stars

I am bringing back the YES YOU CAN STARS. This increase in weight is getting out of control. I am up to 216 this week, another 2+  pound increase.  I am disappointed and I know what is wrong;  I am not going to gym like I used to.  I used to spend 2 hours at the gym, one hour on cardio and the other in weights.  I need to bring that back.  I am not feeling the motivation these days, I am really not.  I will start the stars on Sunday.

Have a great evening..

On a happy note, my legs are much better. Tomorrow is another day

Hungry Hungry Hippo

That is how I felt today. After work I came home I was so hungry. Do you have any suggestions as for what I can eat to satisfy my hunger?  I had a half bagel with some peanut butter, I was still hungry.  So I had some Triscuits with cheese, still hungry. I had a bit of dry Honeynut Cheerios.  Finally I was satisfied.  I went for a run that turned into 5K.  Now I am eating my supper.  My legs feel a bit better but still broken.  I must admit that the run helped.

Yeah!  I am at 100 followers.

Thank you!
Merci!
Danke shon!
Arigato!

Today started off in a very caca manner.  I stepped on the scale and it said 218!  I swear my scale hates me.  I am not going to let the scale win.  I am still going to keep doing what I am doing.  Running tonight 4K, my legs are still broken, so I will see how that goes.  I will then head to the gym for so bicep/upper body action.   I did eat two hot dogs last night and they were salty.  Maybe the hot dogs and the scale are in the same cartel and they are after me.

We had a BBQ at school yesterday, it was a family affair and all the students and parents come and eat, chat and have a great time.  I had so many parents tell me that I look great.  THIS IS MY MOTIVATION.

Just because you won today scale, I swear that I am going to kick the caca out of you!

Dear Broken Legs, I Am Sorry.

Yesterday, I ran 7K. Remember?  Then I went to the gym and decided to battle with my arch enemy: Walking Lunges.  I have decided that I am going to do these more often.  Today I feel like I was beat up. My legs are broken.  I can barely walk. It hurts to walk up the stairs, down the stairs, to sit. But you know what, I am going to keep at them.  The funny thing is I only did two sets.

Weigh In: The Glass is Half Full

>> Friday, September 10, 2010

Hello!
Today's weigh in was good 213.6 down 1 from last week.  Even better because on Monday after the wedding bonanza I was at 217.  A few things have happened in the last few days to make me happy:

  • I now can wear XL tops and do not need to go to the plus size section
  • I am comfortably in a 16
  • I have been getting so many compliments at work
  • My stomach feels "flatter"
A few not so good things:

  • I got a speeding ticket yesterday going 74 km/h in a 50 zone.  Bye bye 110$ and 2 demerit points
  • I have donated alot of my clothing because they no longer fit.  I find it hard to get dressed in the morning for work, tops are not so bad but I am really struggling in the pants department.  I am now shopping at Winners (similar to TJ Maxx and Marshalls for all my US readers), I purchased a skirt for 20$ and I plan to continue shopping there until I reach my goal.  There is no point in spending alot of money on clothing that I will have to eventually donate.
  • Don't think that I am going to go to the wedding next week. I don't like driving long distances and it would be a 5 hour drive.  Also i am not in the mood to spend 150$ on the train. You know when you get that gut feeling?  I am a big believer in intuition and I follow mine to a tea.  I am going to email my friend later with my regrets and I will still mail her a gift.  I hope that this is OK.
  • Haven't been to the gym all week.  Yikes!  I am going to go for a 5K run tomorrow and then head to the gym, I miss my weights.  Sunday we are doing a 7K and I will see how I feel and also hit the gym.
I got a few blog awards and I will address those tomorrow!  Thanks for all your support.

Things are better, eating is better.  I haven't made it to the gym in a long time, because I am so busy at work.  I can't go today, because I have a volleyball meeting.  Tomorrow my friend is coming in from out of town, so I won't be able until Sat.  I am trying to eat well, because I know that I am not hitting the gym. I do have some weights at home maybe I will try and do a few things (squats, bicep curls, the usual) before bed. Wish me the best.

New Start

>> Monday, September 6, 2010

These last few days have been a free for all, treats on top of treats and I cannot have this.  I have made a commitment to get back on track and be more strict with what I put in my mouth.  Today I woke up ready to tackle a new week and recommit to living healthy and taking care of me.  I have come along way and for the last few months I have been swinging from 209-216 and I want to start to go in the right direction and try and get to that 210 and eventually to 205.  I then went for a 6K run.

Total: 51:28
Calories: 581
Distance: 6.4 K
Avg Pace: 8:02
Avg Hrt: 147
Max Pace: 5:15
Max Hrt: 165

I feel really good.  Ro if you are reading this I am at 2/25 workouts! There is a race on Saturday, I am debating if I should run it.  I have not been training, but the location is really beautiful. Decisions, decisions.

I am aiming to workout and/or run everyday this week except for Wed. On Wed. we have a meeting at school in the evening.  I am rereading alot of magazines and books that I have to get me back into the zone.  I am going to try and detox today.  Water and fruits all day (water and/or tea and if i am really hungry I will eat some fruit).  After all the crap that I ate this weekend (it was yummy crap), I just want to purge my body (purge is such a gross word) and start anew.  I think that I will have to bring back the "Yes You Can Stars!"  If this Friday's weigh in is up, I am bringing them back for the month.

Did I tell you that I am going to NYC with the school art trip!?  I am so excited!  We will be heading there the last weekend of Oct.  We will be seeing the Broadway production of Wicked and Billy Elliot.  I have wanted to see Wicked for the longest time.  I am so excited.  We will head to the Met, the Moma, Statue of Liberty, NYC is one of my favorite places in the world, it is just so vibrant.

This is one of my favorite quotes, I have it hanging in my class and I feel that is suites us all so well.

I wish that I was refering to that R. I have a wedding this evening so I am leaving work early and driving out since it is about 2 hours away.  I also have to do all that girly stuff, manicure, make up and buy a few accessories.  I love weddings theya re always so much fun and the food is always so yummy.

Hope your weigh in's are better than mine.
